Comme Des Garçons / FUTURA
The Brief
Engage artist FUTURA to co-design the pinnacle creative expression of the SS20 Comme Des Garcon collection. Produce a strategic, multi-pronged project to encapsulate product, press and art sculpture.
Program Execution
Working hand in hand with Rei Kawakubo, FUTURA, and CDG, we created an incredibly vibrant SS20 collection that premiered at PFW summer 2019. FUTURA’s iconic artwork from yesteryear was translated onto both men’s and women’s high fashion garments--that included a dynamic range of shirting and bags. Life-size orbs were created utilizing four of FUTURA’s works from the eighties, as POP & sculpture to enhance the designs used in the collection. In addition, FUTURA created a site-specific work adorning the front of the historic Chelsea CDG Flagship.
The CDG and ICNCLST/ teams continue to partner together (concepting, communication strategy, go-to market) in producing the collection, followed thereafter by a show at The Noguchi Museum — where Kawakubo was honored the year prior. FUTURA and CDG continue their relationship by offering collections in CDG Black market, as well as CDGCDGCDG — exclusive to Dover Street Market.
